The Institute of Linguistics of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (IL-CASS, formerly known as the Institute of Linguistics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences) was established in June 1950 as one of the first research institutes in the field of philosophy and social sciences since the Chinese Academy of Sciences had been founded. The Institute of Linguistics has been affiliated to the newly established CASS since 1977.
